The Difference Between Lightning Protection And Surge Protection

Lightning and surge protection are two elements of an effective electrical protection system.

Surge Protection: What Should Be Noted?

Effective surge protection is not just simply installed. It has to be individually coordinated – to the system that is to be protected and the ambient conditions that are prevalent on site.

Surge Protector FAQ

Do surge protectors last forever? No, they do not. Each time a surge protector reroutes a power surge away from your connected equipment, the internal structure of the protector takes a little bit of damage.

How to protect your solar power system from lightning

Lightning is a common cause of failures in photovoltaic (PV) and wind-electric systems. A damaging surge can occur from lightning that strikes a long distance from the system, or even between clouds. But most lightning damage is preventable.

How Power Surge Happen and What to Do About Them

What Is Power Surge?Power surges are just as the name suggests: surges of electrical power that is higher than normal.

What is the difference between 10/350μs and 8/20μs waveform?

According to IEC61643-11, Type 1 surge protective device should be tested by 10/350μs waveform and Type 2 SPD should be tested by 8/20μs waveform.

EN 62305 Protection against lightning

The EN 62305 standard series specifically cover the protection against lightning to structures, their contents, persons and livestock.

Similarities and Differences between Signal SPD and Power SPD

When it comes to surge protection, there are two types of SPDs (Surge Protective Devices) that are commonly used in homes and businesses: Telecommunication SPD and Power Supply SPD.

Classification of SPDs

A surge protective device (SPD) is designed to protect electrical systems and equipment from surge events by limiting transient voltages and diverting surge currents.
